THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE CENTRAL PACIFIC

Manuel Antonio is a top destination in Costa Rica with one of the most beautiful National Parks in the world listed by Forbes Magazine.

White sandy beaches, tropical Rainforest, sparkling blue water, stunning wildlife all combined into one. Manuel Antonio boasts postcard-perfect settings and a range of fun activities to choose from for the nature-lover, explorer or thrill seeker. Nearby sandy stretches include Playa Espadilla and Playa Biesanz.  The beach-lined rainforests shelter sloths; white-faced, howler and squirrel monkeys. Just recently re-introduced to the area you will see scarlet macaws spreading their wings in the skies over the area.

The small village of Quepos at the bottom of the Manuel Antonio hill acts as gateway to the National Park. It is a small booming harbor town famous for being one of the best places for big-game sportfishing. The shoreline is home to many fish that are considered premier catches, including marlin, sailfish, snapper, amberjack, wahoo, dorado, yellowfin and bigeye tuna, and roosterfish. Quepos is home to one of the newest marinas – Marina Pez Vela which besides fishing tournaments offers a variety of great restaurants and stores to visit.

Northwest of town, the Damas Island mangrove estuary is home to wildlife including caimans, snakes and iguanas – Excursions can be taken to explore this very unique, natural habitat.

Zipline through the mountain tops, cruise along the shorelines spotting dolphins or paddle down the Savegre river rafts in the midst of the tropical jungle.

Manuel Antonio and Quepos alike offer a very developed tourism infrastructure. It is very easy to get around with the public bus or the red taxis. There is only one road leading the all away to a round-about right in front of the National Park – that is the only road there is – so getting lost is not an option.

There are many fabulous dining options and cuisine styles offered. For breakfast check out Café Milagro – best French press Costa Rican coffee in town. Emilio’s Café has very yummy light fare salads and pita sandwiches for lunch, but definitely the best pastry and cakes in the entire area plus the view is simply breathtaking. For dinner, check out El Arbol Restaurant at Makanda By The Sea if you like to spoil yourself to something special or enjoy some delicious, fruity cocktails and great sea food at Agua Azul.

Insider Tip: In Manuel Antonio and Quepos – you will not find all-inclusive and chain hotels. Most hotels include the breakfast only while almost all excursions include the lunch & for dinner try one of the many amazing restaurants in the area & get to meet the locals.

Playa Hermosa just shortly before Jaco is considered to be THE surf spot along the Central Pacific Coast. This beach brings in surfers of all levels and from all over the world. It is known to have some of the most consistent surf breaks of the world. Remember when flying with Costa Rica Green Airways your first surfboard flies for free.

For the wellness seeker local spas and yoga studios offer a large variety of practices and treatments to unwind, rejuvenate and reconnect with yourself and nature. (Holis Spa)

Conservation is put into practice and action in this area of the country and many local efforts and helping hands work on protecting, rehabilitating and reintroducing local wildlife. To support or learn more about the effort you may take one of the guided tours of the Kids Saving the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary or you can learn about coral reef restoration in a scuba diving exploration with Marine Conservation Costa Rica.

To protect the coasts and to keep them plastic- and trash-free Costa Rica Green Airways collaborates with Operation Rich Coast in coastal clean-ups. Check out their weekly clean-up schedule on Instagram (@operationrichcoast) if you like to get involved yourself during your stay in Costa Rica.
