Breathe the open air at the pristine nature of the Nicoya Peninsula, or at the most beautiful beaches for surfing, yoga, and wellness.
Cóbano is the first destination of Costa Rica Green Airways. We fly back and forth six times a day.
As part of our commitment to excellent customer service, we can assist you in coordinating how to reach your final destination after landing in Cóbano. We have a network of reliable drivers who can take you from the airport in Cóbano to your destination of choice.
It’s important to consider the driving times from Cóbano Airport:
If you prefer to drive, you can rent a vehicle and pick it up at the Cóbano Terminal, but we recommend coordinating the rental prior to arriving in Cóbano. We can also help you with this if you need it.
The third option upon your arrival in Cóbano is to have your hotel or residence coordinate a car to pick you up. Most establishments in the area provide this service as well.
The Nicoya Peninsula is considered a Blue Zone, because the average life expectancy is much higher than in other places, together with just 8 other places in the world, in addition, it has the lowest middle-aged mortality rate and the second highest concentration of centenarians.
Pure life, right? You may or may not have heard of the expression “Pura vida”, which means pure life, but in case you haven’t, you should learn it because you will hear it a lot during your visit to Costa Rica. “Pura vida” is a greetingand a farewell, an affirmation, and a state of mind, reflecting an appreciation of the wonder of life. This “Pura Vida” concept makes Costa Rica a perfect place to relax and renew your energy.
Santa Teresa (Malpaís, Hermosa, Manzanillo, Playa Carmen)
We refer as a general term to Santa Teresa, but if you visit Malpaís, Hermosa, Manzanilloor Playa Carmen, our recommendations work, given the short distance between these locations. Downtown, the heart of the area is known as “el cruce”, right on the border between Playa Carmen and Malpaís, here you will find all the basic services, banks, pharmacies, coffee shops, supermarkets, etc. ATVs (often called “Cuadras” by the locals) are the preferred means of transportation for travelers, on bumpy ballast roads. You can rent them quite easily as many shops in the area offer the service and are available all year round.
The sea is warm all year round!
You can enjoy long walks on the beach, swim or play with the waves. You can also enjoy activities such as horseback riding with Ario Tours, surfing, paddle boarding or practicing yoga with the best international teachers (Pranamar).
You will enjoy the pristine beauty of the beaches around this area, surrounded by 3000 acres of the Cabo Blanco Natural Reserve; but this beauty comes at a price: it is wild in Santa Teresa. Nevertheless, this is part of the appeal: you may well see howler and white-faced monkeys, iguanas and other creatures while sitting comfortably in a hammock or walking along some threshing floor.
By the way, yoga is a great complement to surfing, because it is training the agitated mind by stretching and strengthening your muscles, including those used to navigate the waves.
Santa Teresa has excellent options to practice yoga. Many hotels or resorts in the area offer packages that combine surf lessons and equipment rentals, with yoga classes.
In Malpaís, from its small fishing port you can take a boat excursion for snorkeling or fishing. You can also go paddle boarding, kayaking or on a canopy tour next to the Cabo Blanco Reserve, and if you are passionate about nature, a visit is almost a must during your time in the area.
You can also explore nearby attractions such as the waterfalls at Montezuma or take a boat and snorkel tour to Tortuga Island.
Food is another point that will surprise you. The magical atmosphere of Santa Teresa has attracted people from all over the world, who came to visit, felt in love with the place and decided to stay. They have elevated the culinary scene with an incredible combination of culture and healthy ingredients that will certainly be something to remember from your trip.
For lunch, you may enjoy tasting the fantastic hamburgers or a super salad, everything made with the top organic and fresh ingredients. For lunch and dinner, take a few local crafted beers, with the super fresh fish (as addictive tacos, ceviches, and super bowls). For dinner, you might want to take the most incredible fresh sushi in your life.
Surfing
With over 300 beautiful beaches with sand, warm water all year round, stable winds and consistent tides, Costa Rica is a surfing mecca, and one of the best places in the world all year round to learn to surf. The beaches of Malpaís, Montezuma, Playa Hermosa and Santa Teresa are home to some of the best surf spots in Costa Rica, with reliable waves and a relaxed atmosphere. Visitors will fall in love with the vibe of Santa Teresa, and may decide to stay, never leave anymore, or end up building their dream home in the hills for their vacations.
Do not worry if you have never surfed, you can start with a boogie board and take a lesson with qualified instructors. You can also rent surfboards along the entire coast and choose the best waves.

Take some sunscreen, store some drinks, snacks, and enjoy.
There are several beautiful beaches you can choose from within the area: Playa Santa Teresa, Playa Carmen, Playa Montezuma, Piedra Colorada, Playa Hermosa, Playa Suecos, Playa Cabuya, Las Delicias and Playa Manzanillo. Don’t forget to stop at the tidal pools, located at Playa Hermosa.
Practice Yoga
Bringing Yoga to the beach can help you protect your body, expand your own possession, feel better about life, and even recover quickly. Practicing Yoga allows you to have better self-control over your mind and body. Share the balance of your soul with the best Yoga instructors, in the ecological and luxurious Yoga studios.
Blend yourself with Nature
It is important to integrate with nature, something we forget on some occasions. Many people find themselves submerged in jungle lands, or semi-jungles, only to be surrounded by trees and the ocean for a while. Feeling the grass between your toes, the sand on your feet and the fresh air on your skin, are the best sensations of this life.
The tranquility of the forests and tropical beaches embody a perfect configuration.
The Cabo Blanco Natural Reserve is one of the oldest reserves in Costa Rica and is a spectacular place to visit; composed of 1270 hectares of hybrid forest, which is classified as tropical rainforest. About 150 species of trees have been identified.
You need to connect with these environments, come and discover new knowledge about plants and animals, enjoy the country that has 7% of world’s biodiversity.
Every time you disconnect from the routine, the concrete, the traffic, cell phones, technology, noise, and connect with the natural energy, coming from the rainforest, you will feel like a new soul, ready to take in love, peace, happiness, and a good environment.
Don’t miss this beautiful reserve while staying in Santa Teresa. Remember also to recycle, reject, and reuseplastic, to have a better place you can visit again!
